I couldn’t resist not to write at least one post about my tropics aquarium.
And I won’t guarantee there won’t be more of tropics posts. Aquaristics became my hobby and its probably safe to say it also became my passion. One of many.
It all began innocently enough. I got a 54 liter “glass box” as a gift from someone who didn’t have space for it anymore. I’ve cleaned it, poured gravel and water in and then realised there is a big world of knowledge behind it all. Its called aquaristics.
My first lie to myself “I’ll just throw in some fish, some plants and enjoy watching it”, riiiight 🙂 The first step that gave me the reality check is that you don’t pour water from the sink into the aquarium and leave the fishes to swim in it. There is a procedure, some powders/fluids and about 14 to 30 days of time involved before the aquarium is ready for fishes to swim in. Before I started reading about aquaristics I’ve always considered aquarists that measured water parameters and were all worried for their fish a bunch of crazy chemists without a lab to enjoy. The next thing I knew, I became just the same.
Water parameters, light spectrums, substrates, liquid fertilizers, solid/powder fertilizers…name it and I’m probably measuring it…
Well, here are some of the details of my aquarium for those who share this passion. I know its not the biggest, but even with this size it can be a challenge to keep everything in balance, especially when you have a limited amount of time.
Aquarium volume: 54 litres (60x30x30 cm)
Aquarium type: tropical planted
Lighting type: LED (9x 3W LEDs powered at approx. 2W)
External filter MULTIKANI 800 (at the moment with only one cartridge)
Inhabitants:
- 6x neon tetras (Paracheirodon axelrodi)
- 6x redheaded tetras (Hemigrammus bleheri)
- 1x Albino Ancistrus Sp.
- 2x Silver fox (Crossocheilus siamensis)
